Review:
2 CDs, 2 and 1/2 hours of music. That by itself is quite a package. The music on
the CDs being good is a nice added bonus. The Sonic Adventure soundtrack contains
a variety of tracks, although overall the music is rock. Almost all of the "Level"
tracks on the CD are excellent. By "Level" music I mean music played during the
various levels of the game. The music from the Emerald Coast, Casinopolis, and
Red Mountain levels is particularly good.
That being said, I have to make
note of the supposed "Main Theme of "Sonic Adventure"" (double quotes!! Woo Hoo!)
"Open Your Heart". I think this song is WAY too sappy for this game. It's not a
love song, despite what the title may have you think. It's a song about defeating
evil. Yes, a song about defeating evil. Still, this song is forgivable because
the publisher did not include the two songs from the game that almost made me
stop playing (yes, I take my game music that seriously). The first song I'm talking
about is Amy's Song. The one with the chorus "Sweet sweet girl so sweet..." I hate
that song. But Amy's Song pales in comparison to the real atrocity of the game,
the Knuckles Rap. Have you heard this song? I can't believe they put it in the
game.
I suppose ranting about music that's not even on the soundtrack is somewhat
a waste of time, but need to take every opportunity to rip on the Knuckles Rap.
Anyway, the soundtrack is a good solid piece of listening fair, with a large number
of tracks that completely fill two CDs. Definitely a good addition to a game music
collection.
